Jazz Classes (ages 4+)
Jazz Level 1
Jazz is sometimes the overlooked genre in the dance world. Jazz has helped develop many other styles such as lyrical, contemporary, modern, etc. Jazz is the basic body movements that move in sync to the music. Jazz is typically a fun, upbeat, and full of energy style class. In our jazz classes we focus on rhythm and counting music through fun dance combinations across the floor, learn how to isolate all body sections, stretch, and enjoy all leaps, jumps, and turns that are associated with Jazz. No experience is needed to take this class so come join the fun!
Requirements for Level 2:
- Choreography memorization skills
- Single pirouette with proper head spotting
- Beginning mastery of front and side kicks
- Completion of alternating chasses into straight legged leaps
- Mastery in dance progressions done across the floor
- Acro skills with proper technique- front and backward rolls, standing backbend, handstand, and straight legged cartwheels
- Class etiquette and respect towards teacher
Jazz Level 2
This class is known as the beginning/intermediate level class. As students have mastered the basic skills in level 1, they move into level 2 where the focus is on harder combinations with faster speeds, double pirouettes, and more complicated leaps with added illusions. We continue to practice our isolations and stretch to increase flexibility. Each student must have appropriate skills in order to take a Jazz level 2 class.
Requirements for Level 3:
- Recognize proper names of skills
- Ability to count music
- Double pirouette with proper head spotting
- Kicks with proper turnout
- 180 degree front leap
- Mastery of tour jumps, turn sequences, and illusions
- Acro skills with proper technique- basic body poses, straight legged one-armed cartwheels, round offs, and front and back walkovers
